Chapter 3 - Getting Your Coupons

Let’s begin to take a look at some of the many ways in which you can acquire your coupons. The most popular method of obtaining manufacturer coupon inserts is from Sunday’s newspaper. Most Sundays, except for holiday weekends, your local Sunday newspaper will have one or more coupon inserts.

The three most popular are the RedPlum insert, the Proctor and Gamble insert, and the Smart Source insert. You want to get coupon inserts every Sunday. It’s recommended that you have as many sets of inserts as there are members in your household, with a minimum of four inserts. So for example if there are seven members in your household, then you might need to consider getting seven newspaper inserts. But if there are less than four in your household, you might still want to get a minimum of four newspaper inserts.

Another very popular method of obtaining manufacturer coupons is from the internet. This gives you the advantage, if your access to newspaper inserts is limited, of printing many of your coupons from various internet sources. There’s coupons.com, a huge site with many coupons available (generally you can only print like two of each desired coupon from coupons.com).

Other sites are RedPlum.com and SmartSource.com and Proctor and Gamble’s website, you know, just like the newspaper inserts. Of course there are many other sites. Some companies make printed coupons available directly from their websites. Others make coupons available through their Facebook pages. But these are just some of the main sources.

There are manufacturer coupons that are sometimes available in the store. They frequently take one of four forms. There’s what’s called a hangtag coupon, which just hangs from the product itself. There is a tearpad coupon, and obviously you tear a coupon off of the pad, which might be on a product display.
